Understanding BOID and Demat Accounts in Nepal
Published on 02 Apr 2026
BOID (Beneficial Owner Identification) is a unique 16‑digit number assigned to every investor with a Demat account in Nepal. It acts as your digital identity in the share market.
A Demat (Dematerialized) account holds your shares electronically. Without a Demat account and BOID, you cannot apply for IPOs, receive dividends, or trade on NEPSE via Mero Share. Opening one is simple: visit any authorized Depository Participant (most commercial banks and brokerages) with your citizenship certificate, passport‑size photo, and a bank account.
Once opened, you can register on Mero Share using your BOID within minutes.
